About me and the Club

Pre-history
Hi there! My name is Kristina. I have been teaching English for over 8 years now. During this time I have traveled and volunteered in the USA, learned Spanish in Spain, German in Germany, settled down in Munich and gained a lot of experience in teaching people from different cultures. I got my TEFL teaching certificate prepared my students for international exams and helped them find their dream job. My dreams though were to have an English speaking and book club where my students could develop their skills in a friendly and casual atmosphere. But as usual - either lack of time, or lack of energy.... The idea remained an idea. And finally, in May 2024, I chose my first book - and it has started!
My “English by Books” is first of all an educational project, which was created for all those who already have a sufficient level of the language (B1+) and experience difficulties in reaching a confident B2 or C1, but also love books and would like to start reading in a foreign language or read more, learn to work effectively with vocabulary and grammar and make English a part of their everyday life.

In all the years of teaching experience I have had different students, but most of them were exactly at Intermediate level. And there is no such rapid development, and therefore it is very easy to lose motivation. I guess many of you know this feeling of stagnation, when you do something weekly, listen, watch, have found a suitable and interesting book, tried to read, but it's as if you are not moving forward, and after a couple of pages of constant reference to Google Translate, the words that were translated in the beginning have already been forgotten, and there is no desire to read further.
I would like to help my students regain confidence in themselves and teach them how to work with the material properly: not just to translate unfamiliar words and phrases, but to see the structure, guess the meaning from the context, and use grammar as a clue. Reading books in the original is a great way to build Vocabulary, and the format of the speaking club creates a friendly and comfortable atmosphere where everyone can express their opinions and practice Speaking with different participants.

In K-Lang we will have active individual work (30-50 pages per week), a weekly plan with chapter-by-chapter vocabulary lists, several vocabulary exercises, and online group meetings every Sunday or Monday. All in all, such a book marathon=)

My students' reviews:

  • Irina
    The Rosie Project
I liked the way the lessons were organized. Kristina sets the direction for discussion in an easy, relaxed and humorous way, prepares interesting tasks for each lesson and gives the opportunity to work through the vocabulary independently. All in all, I think it is a great way to get additional language practice and pump up my conversational skills on various topics.
